How a Cooling Tower Works - An Easy Guide

Amid all climatic conditions, cooling towers try to ensure a smooth passage to quality production. They are the best-in-class technology for the reduction of water temperature. Cooling towers help in improving working conditions by releasing the unwanted heat out. This ultimately leads to high-quality production. Many buyers the odds of cooling towers that result in landing onto wrong product.

Apart from knowing what technology is in lead, it is important to know about its working as well. Theoretical knowledge of its practical working helps in swiping away future inconvenience that can hit you hard if not taken care of. So, let us understand the working of cooling towers in a simple language.

During the production of electricity or any machine run, industrial equipment gets hot. It is then important to maintain the temperature of the machines for their smooth working. Improper machinery temperature can cause struggle with the production. Water is used to reduce the temperature of such industrial equipment. Working:

  • At first, the cold water is made to run through warm industrial equipment. This way water absorbs excess heat from the machines, leaving them cool.

  • Then this hot water is pumped to the top of the cooling tower to let it return to its initial cooled form.

  • From inlet pipe this water gets evenly dispersed over the tower fill where water droplets fragment into smaller droplets. This is done to increase evaporation and remove heat resulting in faster cooling of the water.

  • These fragmented droplets flows down the fill where they come together in a large tub.

  • In NDCT (Natural Draft cooling tower), no fans are installed and evaporation process works on its own.

  • In MDCT (Mechanical Draft cooling tower), fans are installed onto the top of the cooling tower which draws air across the fill which accelerates evaporation and further cools the water.

  • The cooled water then flows back to the heat source through sump and enters from the top of the cooling tower.

  • The water lost during evaporation is the pure water and the system water remained is full of elements which are then drained out through bleed off valve.

  • The water lost throughout is compensated by the freshwater introduced through makeup line.

The worst thing to happen to buyers is getting tricked by unworthy Cooling towers manufacturer. Remember, bidding on such technology without prior understandings can lead to despair situations.
